Last year, the Defense Forces began targeting targets deep inside Russia with Ukrainian-made missiles. The Ministry of Defense does not disclose details, but it is known that the Ukrainian missile has already proven itself worthy, having hit a target 700 kilometers away.

Minister for Strategic Industries Alexander Kamyshin spoke about this at the forum “Ukraine. Year 2024,” Channel 24 reports.

“The most important program for our country is the missile program, but I will say no more about it than the president. We now have long-range weapons that hit a target 700 kilometers away,” Kamyshin said.

Development of the defense industry

Talking about the dynamics of building up Ukrainian armed capabilities, the minister noted that this year will also bring many good new ones for the defense complex of Ukraine and announced successful ground operations.

“Last year, the Defense Forces began working on strategic targets in the depths of Russia with weapons produced in Ukraine. We saw a drone in action, in the air, we saw them at sea. This year will be the year when we see them on the ground,” Kamyshin noted.

He explained that this year, Ukrainians will learn about ground robotic systems that the Defense Forces will use against the invaders.

Is Ukraine developing its own air defense systems?

Regarding the Ukrainian air defense system, the minister noted that despite the limited time frame, Ukraine manages to find solutions.

Developing air defense takes much longer than we have today. But we have found a solution with our partners – this is hybrid air defense. We combine old Soviet systems and Western missiles; we integrate Western systems into our systems,” Kamyshin clarified.

More about the development of the defense industry

  • In Ukraine there are now 100 state defense enterprises, 400 private ones and 300,000 gunsmiths.
  • In 2023, Ukraine has significantly increased the production of ammunition – this is the main range that the front expects. At the same time, this is still not enough to cover all needs.

  1. Ukraine already has drones that can go further than that. However, a missile will have a bigger punch. I hope we’ll see more of mafia land being pounded and burning, and especially finally see the Kerch Bridge go to the fishes.
