The war has revived a Sleeping Monster! | Patricia Marins

Russia’s tank manufacturer Uralvagonzavod has announced that it has delivered a new batch of upgraded T-72B3M and T-90M main battle tanks to the Russian Armed Forces

In 2018, Rostec had closed 12 Repair Armored Plants.

Major armored factories like Kurganmashzavod, Uralvagonzavod, and Chelyabinsk Tractor Plant were going through bankruptcy processes, while Omsktransmash had declared bankruptcy in 2002 and was trying to recover.

Also in 2018, the Volgograd Krasny Oktyabr ("Red October") plant, which produces armor plates for Russian tanks, was declared bankrupt.

The Russian military industry has been in crisis for two decades.
During this process, some commanders, such as Alexander Ogloblin, Khalil Arslanov, and a few others, were arrested on charges of fraud.

The liquidation of Russian bankrupt armored plants was chaotic, resembling a fight between gangs.

The potential for a lack of parts in the event of sanctions was highlighted in an April 2021 report by the Russian General Prosecutor's Office, on import substitution in the defense industry. It revealed a shortage of 117,000 components for 278 types of military equipment.
In 2020, Russian defense firms had hoped to replace only 18,000 components needed for 43 types of weapons.
A total disaster.
But...

The war came in 2022, and the state of the Russian army in Ukraine reflected their bankruptcy process.
Surely, Putin had no idea how bad his army was.
The Ukrainian army, with little support from allies, was able to win important battles against the Russians, such as at Hostomel.

However, the Russians have been revolutionizing their military in the past 7-8 months.
Importations deals using third countries, smuggling and a jump in domestic production supported this process.

The failed modernization process led by Serdyukov is now being implemented almost 10 years later.

The Russian armored repair plants that were liquidated are now under military enterprises, with three of them directly managed by the Russian Ministry of Defense.

Since last October, the Azart company, responsible for the failed modernization of Russian tactical communications, is now owned by the federal government, which is seeking immediate solutions.

At least 12 armored plants are producing vehicles, including the 103rd, 144th, 61st, 81st, 560th, 206th, and 261st.
Some of these plants operate 12 hours a day.

The 103rd plant refurbishes around 400 vehicles annually, while other armored repair plants have a capacity of 100-150 vehicles.

Kurganmashzavod, which went from bankruptcy to high productivity, will deliver the fourth batch of BMP-3 and BMP-2M this month. In the first quarter of 2023, the company produced more vehicles than in the entire year of 2019 and nearly the same as in 2022.

The production for 2023 is estimated to reach 400-450 new units and 200 refurbished units, totaling 600 to 650 vehicles from just one factory.
This exceeds the entire annual production of infantry fighting vehicles (IFVs) in Europe.

In recent months, Uralvagonzavod has delivered batches of T-90M and T-72B3 tanks in an unknown number.

Ammunition is also being produced at 80 sites, including FNTTs, FSEs, Grosnii, LLCs, and NPOs.

The local production of German 2 and a revolutionary improvement of Lancet drones, now also creating the new Izdelie 53 are a extreme example of Russian adaptation during the war.

In another field, after months of development, the Russians launched their first all-weather satellite in May. It is capable of capturing high-resolution images day and night, and it can track the supplies and routes of supplies coming from Western Europe to Ukraine twice a day.
This satellite launch is part of a plan to create a satellite system for remote sensing of the Earth in all weather conditions.
Uraltransmash has already delivered two batches of artillery, mainly Msta-S and others.

The war has awakened the Red Army Monster, which was almost dead but is now tactically improved, rapidly being modernized, and highly productive.

The allies are on the path to defeat, exactly because, after wars like Serbia, Iraq, and Libya, they failed to properly assess the strength of their enemy.
Recently, a German instructor stated that Ukrainian tank drivers can navigate around minefields because the fields are only 100-200 meters wide
(According the Russian doctrine there are 1.000-1.500 mines per km2 and minefields have kilometers).
This highlights a major issue within NATO.
Ironically, some Western military analysts display the same blindness when it comes to assessing the Russian army.

This is mainly due to populism in all spheres:
Governments, Media, and Analysts.

And no, as a funny "analyst" predicted, the winter did not freeze 100,000 Russians.

Note:
After almost 45 days the counter-offensive didn't bring results, but can bring a counterattack and prolong the war for long time.

Although the Russians now have a more organized and functioning industry, the Ukrainians are good in defensive positions.

Negotiation is necessary. Nobody has the right to invade another country and destroy properties, dreams, and lives, whether it be Russians or NATO.

For a long time, Ukrainians who are familiar with Russians have been issuing warnings about the rate of weapons deliveries, the condition of the weapons, and the fact that some of them do not work at all.

The Russians have made significant improvements, and their industry is producing. There are facts to support this. However, it does not mean they will win the war, but is a demonstration of resilience and adaptation.
Industry isn't all at a war. The Russians still has some bottlenecks to fix.

On the other hand, it is completely unrealistic to believe that 200 tanks and 300 IFVs can breach 1,000km of fortifications.

People who believe in victory are deluding themselves. The size and speed of the deliveries are only meant to maintain the front.

The Ukrainians are the ones publishing numbers from the Russian industry, exactly to warn the western world.

Today Uralvagonzavod announced a new batch of tanks.

Still this month, Kurganmashzavod will deliver another batch of BMP-3.

We are getting to a point where only a massive US delivery can avoid a Russian counterattack.
