Sesame Street, the long-running children’s show, has been celebrating Pride all month long – and it’s the most heartwarming thing you’ll see this week.

While some corporations have backed away from their public support of LGBTQ+ rights and Pride Month, Elmo, Big Bird, and Cookie Monster are celebrating with the community.

We’re not even halfway through the month and the show has tweeted support and posted on Instagram four times. In the face of unprecedented attacks on LGBTQ+ children from Republicans and the religious right, Sesame Street is standing up for all kids.

In response, the community has responded with love for the show and gratitude for the support.

Sesame Street has stood up to anti-LGBTQ+ activists recently by featuring very out celebrities in their show, including Ellen DeGeneres, comedian Billy EichnerPose actor and singer Billy Porter, and out rapper Lil Nas X. In 2021, they introduced three gay characters to the neighborhood. They have also fended off outrage from Republicans repeatedly – including threats to cut off their negligible government funding – over their support for the queer community.
