BALTIMORE, MARYLAND: The Baltimore Police Department has launched an investigation into an alleged attack that happened on Sunday, August 30. The video of the incident has gone viral on social media that showed a man being hit in the back of the head with a brick by another man in South Baltimore.

According to reports, at around 6:40 p.m. Sunday, police along with a backup unit arrived at the 100 block of Hamburg St. in the Sharp-Leadenhall neighborhood after they received a report of an assault. However, police said before their arrival, the victim left the scene, they did not find anyone there. An incident report also stated that the medics who canvassed the scene did not find a victim. However, later cops noticed a “pool of blood” on a sidewalk not far away from the area, the incident report added.

A witness who chose to be anonymous told police that a “loud” argument between the two men led to the alleged attack. The witness said that as one man decided to leave and started to walk away, another man took two bricks from the street and hit him in the back of the head. The person added that the alleged attacker escaped the scene after the assault as he ran away traveling northbound by foot toward the Sharp-Leadenhall apartments, the incident report mentioned as reported by The Baltimore Sun.

A video of the assault surfaced widely on social media that matches the details provided in the incident report. The video was first reportedly shared on Instagram by a person, who goes by the username @traysavage_ on social media. However, it was not clear if he was the one behind the attack.

Also, though that video seemed to be deleted from his page, the clip is now all over Twitter with people slamming the incident. One person who goes by the username @MattWalshBlog shared the video on Twitter and wrote, “Just more race based violence against White people that we can all pretend isn’t happening”. In another tweet, he mentioned that the “man who uploaded this video to Instagram is @ traysavage_. He captions it “White lives don’t matter.” I don’t know if this scumbag is the guy who carried out the attack or if he just found the video. He’s a scumbag either way.”

Several people have reacted to the incident with one tweeting, “First of all it’s sad that these people just videotape and laugh the man could have been killed and second if the person being hit would have had a gun and shot the guy with the concrete everyone would be crying murder”. Another one added, “Yep, this is Baltimore! People always ask, is Baltimore really that bad and my response is, NO! It’s much worse!  The anger and hate in this country has to stop. People need to be held accountable for their actions, they’re not and they know it”.

Meanwhile, in a statement, Baltimore City Police spokesperson Nicole Monroe said: “The incident is being investigated, unfortunately the victim left the scene prior to officers arrival and investigators have not been able to locate him. Detectives have canvassed all of our area hospitals as well as, conducting a search history for assault calls in case the victim called police to another location.”

City Councilman Eric Costello also criticized the incident and asked witnesses to come forward. “It should go without saying that the complete depravity to human life illustrated in this video is absolutely disgusting and should be investigated and prosecuted to the full extent of the law.”
