A woman driver was filmed taking seven minutes and more than 18 manoeuvres to parallel park in a double-bay space.

The spectacle in Guildford high street, Surrey, was caught on camera by property maintenance director Lee Smith at 2pm last week as he sat in his van eating lunch.

Lee captured the woman's attempts to navigate the green Renault Clio into the space and provided a running commentary from inside his own vehicle.

In between bursts of laughing Lee offered instructions on how to park while his work colleague suggested she needed binoculars to help her out.

Lee, 36, said: 'It's some of the funniest stuff I've seen on the road. If she'd done the manoeuvre once or twice that would be fine but this was for seven minutes.'

The footage captures the driver repeatedly reversing, nudging forward and even opening the door and getting out of the car to assess how far away she is from the kerb in the double space.

Father-of-two Lee said: 'We'd parked up after getting a KFC lunch and this all unfolded in front of us.

'It was five minutes on the nose from me starting filming to when the lady, who I'm assuming is her mum, gets out of the car.

'This had been going on for two or three minutes before I started filming - she was just doing the exact same manoeuvre over and over and over again.

'At the beginning of the video you can hear us laughing quite loudly as we were already warmed up from watching this unfold.

'She keeps opening her door and looking out to see how far she is instead of using her mirrors and windows which is what normal drivers seem to think they are for.'

Lee commentates on the clip, saying: 'Fourth time lucky. Come on, straighten the wheels - oh she's straightened them, oh she might have it.'

Lee's colleague Miles Midwinter laughs: 'She's still about two feet away from the kerb.'

Lee tries to advise her on how best to park the car and can be heard saying: 'That's it now lock the wheels the other way.'
