Kushner holding talks with Saudi prince: report

Greg Nash

President Trump’s son-in-law and senior adviser Jared Kushner is engaged in negotiations with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman focused on creating a Palestinian state or territory.

According to a Bloomberg report, the talks are centered on creating a state or territory backed by Saudi Arabia and other countries.

Trump has vowed to broker a peace deal between Israelis and Palestinians — a task that has eluded presidents with more experience in the region — and has designated Kushner as the point person on the effort.

But Secretary of State Rex Tillerson is reportedly worried by the talks between Kushner and the crown prince.

According to Bloomberg, Tillerson is concerned that Kushner has not adequately shared the details of the talks, and that the negotiations could sour and stoke turmoil in the region.

Kushner has visited Saudi Arabia multiple times during his tenure in the White House. And while he regularly visits the State Department to update Tillerson on the negotiations, the secretary has grown concerned that the president’s son-in-law has not kept him up to speed on all the details of the discussions, Bloomberg reported.

Tillerson’s concerns about what he views as secret talks began before news reports surfaced on Thursday that the White House had put a plan in place to oust the secretary of State and replace him with CIA Director Mike Pompeo.

While the White House and State Department have dismissed the reports as false, Tillerson’s team believes that Kushner is behind the push to remove him from the State Department, according to Bloomberg.
