Man accused of inciting violence during Pennsylvania protest turns himself in

A 20-year-old Pennsylvania man suspected of inciting violence has turned himself in to police while accompanied by an adult man and woman.

An anonymous co-worker of Brian Bartels alerted police that Bartels was a culprit behind a destroyed police SUV during demonstrations protesting the death of George Floyd. A search warrant was issued for his home Sunday when Pittsburgh police busted down the door and found spray-paint cans and guns. No one was home at the time, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

Bartels turned himself in the following day, video taken outside the courthouse on Monday showed.

“The Antifa kid who police say incited riot in Pittsburgh has been arrested and watching him turn himself in with mommy and daddy is the absolute greatest thing on the internet today,” First TV’s Jason Howerton posted on Twitter.

Police reported that the Sunday protest was one that “turned destructive, violent and into a riot situation” after a police SUV was torched and destroyed.

It is unclear whether Bartels is involved with antifa, which President Trump has said he will designate as a domestic terrorist organization. The president has placed blame on the left-wing group for the surge in violence among the protests of Floyd’s death.

He is charged with rioting, institutional vandalism, criminal mischief, and reckless endangerment.
