Dear Erna,

Here's the thing. The power compassionate people like you have to accomplish the seemingly impossible is a force to behold.

I see it every day and it's simply incredible. And I would like to tell you a story that will hopefully help you to see it too.

Back in 2011, when Soi Dog Foundation declared war on the Thai dog meat trade, it would have been easy to feel very alone. The hideous trade - cruel beyond belief - was run by powerful organised criminal gangs. We were a small organisation helping stray animals hundreds of miles from the heart of dog meat trade territory. What could we do?

And the truth is Erna, without people like you, we wouldn't have been able to do anything.

This is Clementine. They planned to eat her. She was one of hundreds of dogs in an illegal shipment being trafficked out of Thailand and into Vietnam. Had she survived the journey, she would have had rice forcibly pumped into her stomach to increase her weight, before being moved on to her final destination, most likely Hanoi.

Terrified, she would have then spent days in an overcrowded cage, watching her companions being dragged out and skinned alive in front of her. She would have been left in no doubt that she was next. These animals are sentient beings; it is heartbreaking to imagine the fear and stress dogs like Clementine go through.

Where does one even begin trying to tackle such cruelty? How does a small organisation even make a dent in a trade so horrific it has been described as one of the biggest animal welfare concerns in the world? Well
Erna, people like you made it happen. Through their determination and unwavering support, animal lovers like you didn't just dent the Thai dog meat trade, they smashed it. Please click here now to join the fight!
Clementine, rescued along with the hundreds of others with her

Today, the dog meat trade in Thailand has been decimated. While we still continue to hunt and shut down small-time operators, the large-scale illegal transport of Thai dogs to Vietnam - up to half a million a year at its height - is a relic of the past. This is what people like you have accomplished. Will you please click here now to join them?

Support from compassionate animal lovers has funded our undercover investigators, operating in dangerous territory, raiding and shutting down dog butchers. It has supported the rescue of countless terrified dogs who would have otherwise been tortured and slaughtered for a Vietnamese dinner table.

And following such rescues, support from people like you funded the shelter, medical care, and rehabilitation of thousands of traumatised dogs.

Clementine was one of them.

Today, thousands of miles from the Thai border, a New York family like to spend their spare time hiking and camping with their beloved dog. They take her on road trips where she explores many new places and is just as loving to the strangers she meets as she is to her own family. Her family describe her simply as the one who completes them. That dog is Clementine.

Erna, thanks to all those who joined me in the war on Thailand's dog meat trade, thousands of dogs like Clementine are enjoying happy new lives all over the world.
It warms my heart and yes, it makes me smile every time I get pictures like this:

But should we sit back now? Absolutely not! Across many Asian countries, the dog meat trade continues unabated. In places like Vietnam, Cambodia, Indonesia, South Korea, and China to name just a few, man's best friend continues to be snatched from homes or the street, and then tortured and slaughtered. Let's see this war through to the end. Let's finish what we started!

While the situation is different to Thailand in that the trade in many of these countries is still legal, there is one shining light these nations have in common - the younger generations are on our side. And if we stand strong and determined beside them, the Asian dog meat trade will one day be a thing of the past. Click here now to help make it happen.

Erna, let's finish what we started. Let's smash the dog meat trade.
