Killer who was filmed in Regent's Park with an ISIS flag and tried to radicalise children with sweets was shopped to police TWICE as it emerges one of his fellow terrorists lived in DUBLIN

  • Muslim extremist Khuram Butt, 27, appeared in a TV documentary last year about British jihadis on Channel 4
  • He was caught on camera alongside two notorious preachers who were well known to police and intelligence
  • Police were warned about 27-year-old radicalising children in a local park two years ago by offering sweets
  • He and two other jihadis left at least seven dead and 48 injured before police marksmen halted stabbing spree
  • One of his neighbours told MailOnline he was a 'cheeky chappie' growing up and his older brother was in TA
  • The terrorist ringleader held a farewell barbecue at his flat in Barking, where guests were handed cupcakes
  • Police arrest 12 people in connection with the atrocities including 7 women in raids across east London
  • Second attacker has been named as a Moroccan-Libyan called Rachid Redouane thought to be a pastry chef

The London Bridge killer wearing an Arsenal shirt slipped through the net despite being reported to the police twice for extremism including trying to twist the minds of children he bribed with sweets and cash, it was revealed today.

The security services face difficult questions because 27-year-old Muslim ringleader, Khuram Butt, known to friends as 'Abz', even appeared in a Channel 4 documentary last year about British jihadists and unfurled an ISIS-style flag in Regent's Park.

He was also caught on camera alongside two notorious preachers who were well known to police and intelligence officials because of their extremist views.

A friend of Butt called the anti-terror hotline because he became obsessed with watching hate preacher videos on YouTube and police were later warned he was trying to radicalise children in a local park and giving them treats to listen to him.

Butt also berated an Imam for encouraging worshippers to vote in the 2015 General Election and was banned from the mosque in the ensuing row.

A friend who called the anti-terror hotline said: 'I did my bit, I know other people did their bit but the authorities did not do their bit'.

Butt is one of three men who embarked on a stabbing rampage in London on Saturday night, murdering seven and injured 48 on London Bridge and inside Borough Market.

Another of the friends has been named as Rachid Redouane - believed to be a pastry chef living in Ireland having married a Scottish wife - who was not on anyone's radar as a terrorist and also used the name Rachid Elkhdar, claiming to be six years younger.

Second London Bridge attacker was a Moroccan pastry chef carrying an Irish ID card

One of the London Bridge attackers shot dead after murdering seven people was a pastry chef from north Africa carrying an Irish ID card on his bullet-riddled body, it was revealed today.

The suspect, who has not been named, is believed to have been born in Morocco but moved to Dublin around five years ago after marrying a Scottish woman.

Gardai in Ireland say he was living in the Rathmines area of the Irish capital with his wife but he was not on their radar as a terrorist.

It is understood that the couple may have moved to London just months before the attack was launched and he is believed to have links to the 12 people arrested in a Barking tower block yesterday.

Police chiefs in Dublin said they were liaising with counterparts in the UK after it was confirmed he had Irish papers on his body.

'An Garda Siochana is providing every assistance to our colleagues in the London Metropolitan Police in relation to the terror attack in London,' a spokesman said.

'We will process all requests from the UK authorities in relation to inquiries into individuals, identities or any other matter.'

The man, who had been carrying the Irish-issued ID, is understood to be from Morocco and that he was married to a woman from Scotland and had lived in Dublin.

Gardai are investigating whether the ID card belonged to the dead man and if the documents are legitimate.

It is understood inquiries are continuing into whether the man was given an Irish ID card issued by the Garda National Immigration Bureau.

The plastic credit card-sized documentation is given to people from outside the EU. It has a person's certificate of registration which states they have permission to stay in Ireland. It must be carried at all times.

There are also inquiries into whether the man had been given paperwork after landing in Ireland to claim asylum or if he had an ID card issued under EU treaties which allowed him to live in Ireland with his family.

Garda Commissioner Noirin O'Sullivan was holding a meeting with the force's anti-terror and intelligence chiefs as they co-operate with the Met investigation.

Today Butt's family asked to 'grieve in peace' as it emerged the terrorist held a farewell barbecue at his flat in Barking, where guests were handed cupcakes.

Neighbour Ramou Grant told Good Morning Britain: 'Last week he called for a barbecue and invited all of us. [I'm] thinking, "was this a send-off?".'

He was pictured, having been shot dead by police, lying on the ground in an Arsenal shirt.

One of his neighbours told MailOnline he was a 'cheeky chappie' before he became serious about Islam and his older brother was in the Territorial Army.

Aged eight he was knocked down with a car and broke his tooth and damaged his leg. He got a £2,500 payout and walked with a limp after that.

In 2013, the neighbour said he started to wear religious clothes. He used to go to the mosque over the road which she said was quite radical and lots of young men start going there and turn out extreme, she said.

His father died suddenly in 2002 and that affected him because he used to 'took care' to bring them up properly and make sure they didn't stray.

The family were all on benefits but the father also worked selling fruit and veg at a stall in Queens Market in Upton Park. So they lost money when he died and the mother 'didn't really care' about the kids, she said.

Salaudeen Jailabdeen, 40, who lives in a neighbouring block of flats, said Butt had once been ejected from a local mosque for interrupting an imam. He then started preaching in his flat.

A spokesman for the Jabir Bin Zayd Islamic Centre said: 'The imam was forced to ask him to leave two years ago.

'He was giving a speech on the up-and-coming general election and the imam was explaining how it was important to vote wisely.

'He got angry, complaining that it was nothing to do with him, and interrupted the imam. He was then asked to leave.'

But in a statement on its website, the mosque said: 'We feel until the police release more information it is not appropriate for us to speak about anyone that may or may not have prayed here.'

Neighbours near the Barking flats where he lived said he had been well-known to the community.

Damien Pettit, 31, who said he could not be sure the man pictured was definitely his neighbour, said the man was 'very much involved in the area'.

Yesterday a photographer captured a detective carrying secret notes which appeared to suggest he had been quizzed by police as recently as last year.

Football fan Butt worked at KFC and Transport for London, and also worked for a few hours a week at an Islamic fitness centre where he also took part in boxing and taekwondo.

Housewife Erica Gasparri, 42, told The Times she had reported Butt to police last year after challenging him in a park near a school.

She said: 'They were waiting for the children of the neighbourhood. They would give the children chocolate while talking to them. They would pray in the park for hours.'

Butt and his fellow attackers, who were wearing fake suicide bomb vests, used a van to mow down pedestrians on London Bridge before running amok with knives in Borough Market, slitting the throats of innocent bystanders. One is reported to have yelled: 'This is for Allah.'

They left at least seven dead and 48 injured before police marksmen halted their stabbing spree.

Last night, chilling footage showed two of the attackers sauntering through a deserted Borough Market just moments after they abandoned the white van they used in the attack.

A map shows how terror attack unfolded. The attackers were shot dead within eight minutes of the first emergency phone call

Yesterday, Theresa May declared that 'enough was enough' as she announced a four-point plan of action following the third devastating terror attack in Britain in just three months.

But the Prime Minister insisted that Thursday's general election would go ahead, despite terrorists trying to derail Britain's democracy. On another day of extraordinary developments:

  • Police revealed they had fired an 'unprecedented' 50 bullets to kill the three London Bridge terrorists because they believed the attackers were wearing suicide belts;
  • Officers seized 'Molotov cocktail' petrol bombs from the back of white van used to plough into crowds
  •  A member of the public was accidentally shot by police officers in the crossfire but is expected to make a full recovery;
  • As details of the first victims emerged, the authorities said 36 people remained in hospital, with 21 in a critical condition;
  • The Prime Minister said there had been 'far too much tolerance' of the 'evil ideology' of Islamist extremism;
  • She also declared war on the internet giants for providing a 'safe space' for Islamist terrorists bent on attacking Britain;
  • However, it soon emerged that terrorist propaganda and guides to carrying out terror attacks were still freely available online;
  • Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn tried to make political capital out of the tragedy, accusing the Mrs May of denying resources to the police and security services;
  • But he U-turned on his previous opposition to the police shoot-to-kill policy and backed the PM's insistence that the general election must go ahead on Thursday;
  • Amid enormous security, the One Love benefit concert got underway last night after a one-minute silence for the 22 victims who lost their lives in the bombing at the Ariana Grande concert at Manchester Arena two weeks ago.

Yesterday police arrested 12 people in connection with the atrocities – seven women and five men. The youngest was a 19-year-old woman and the eldest was a 60-year-old woman.

Arsenal jihadi: Butt wore an Arsenal shirt when he carried out the attack

Among those detained were a number of people taken into custody at the suspect's home in Barking, east London – where he lived with his wife, two young children and elderly mother.

Police also raided a mother and baby unit in Barking, blowing off the doors in the early hours and taking away a woman aged 38 and her daughter.

The woman's partner, a Tunisian man from whom she is estranged, is believed to be among those being questioned.

In nearby East Ham, a suspect attempted to escape from police by climbing out of his first-floor bedroom window above a bookmaker's.

A neighbour described how Butt appeared to be 'euphoric' just hours before Saturday night's attack and was asking about how to hire a van.

But once again, attention was focused on the intelligence failures that may have allowed him to slip the net.

It follows similar questions over Salman Abedi, the Islamic extremist who killed 22 people in the suicide bombing at the Manchester Arena.

Scribbled handwritten comments that were being carried by a detective at the scene of yesterday's raids, revealed a person involved in the inquiry had been 'interrogated' by officers over his 'Islamist views'.

It is understood that MI5 has to prioritise monitoring those jihadists who have known attack plans – and that just because a person has been flagged up as an extremist and is known to the security services this does not mean they were known to be a risk.

Intelligence officers have identified 23,000 jihadist extremists living in Britain as potential terrorist attackers.

Last week senior Whitehall sources pointed to the 'unprecedented' scale of the threat facing the security services.

At any one time MI5 has around 500 live investigations, of which several are plots to attack in the UK.

Yesterday, Mrs May promised to review Britain's counter-terrorism strategy, with the prospect of enhanced powers for police and security services and tougher jail sentences for extremists.

Speaking outside 10 Downing Street, she promised to ensure that police and security services have 'all the powers they need' to tackle a 'more complex, more fragmented and more hidden' threat.

Cressida Dick vows officers will 'step up a gear' as she admits each terror attack could be 'triggering the next'

Britain has been hit by an 'unprecedented' wave of terror attacks and one atrocity may be triggering the next, the country's top police officer has warned.

Scotland Yard chief Cressida Dick said authorities were confronting a 'new reality' after three deadly assaults hit the UK in just 10 weeks.

Ms Dick told BBC Radio 4's Today programme that it was 'certainly a possibility' that the attacks were triggering the next one.

'The rhetoric that has been coming from Daesh and other organisations has been to encourage people to take action into their own hands, to use low-tech methods, and undoubtedly when people see something which appears from their perverted point of view to be successful, some people will be inspired by that, so that is most certainly a possibility,' the Metropolitan Police commissioner said.

She also said 'we need to look at our resourcing' in response to the emerging terrorism threat.

Ms Dick, asked whether she would demand additional officers, told ITV's Good Morning Britain: 'Over the last several years, police services have in many respects become, it's a ghastly phrase, but become very much more efficient, they have managed to do things in a more productive manner.

'We need to go on doing that in the future.

'But in the face of this changing and changed threat, absolutely I will be seeking for London and for policing generally more resourcing obviously.'

The Prime Minister also indicated that courts could be given powers to impose harsher punishments. She warned Britain is in the grip of a spate of copycat terror attacks, following the attack on Westminster in March and the bombing in Manchester last month.

Mrs May said that although there was no direct link between the three incidents, 'terrorism breeds terrorism'.

But the Prime Minister reserved her harshest words for the social media giants she accused of failing to deprive the extremists of 'their safe space online'.

She is said to be furious at the availability of terror manuals on sites such as YouTube and Facebook, and the ease with which hate preachers can spread their poison on social media.

It emerged yesterday that the firms could face multimillion-pound fines if they continue to drag their feet over the issue.

Last night chilling images emerged of the three terrorists involved in Saturday night's attacks. Striding calmly through empty streets, the three men were caught on camera as they hunted for more victims during their terrifying rampage.

The attackers, who were wearing fake suicide vests, were filmed sauntering through a deserted Borough Market just moments after they abandoned the white van used to mow down pedestrians on London Bridge.

Twenty-four hours after the atrocity, harrowing stories emerged of the brutality and callousness of the terrorists. Witnesses described how the maniacs slashed bystanders' throats and stabbed people in the face yelling: 'This is for Islam.'

An Italian witness described the moment armed police fired up to 50 shots in a 'matter of seconds' to kill the men.

It also emerged that a pregnant woman was among the victims on the bridge and a quick-thinking cab driver tried to run over the killers but they dodged him.

An off-duty policeman grappled with them and was stabbed. The Scotland Yard officer, who plays rugby in his spare time, was in a critical condition in hospital last night. He is one of four police officers injured – two seriously.

The killers were finally cut down as they sauntered past the Wheatsheaf pub next to the market. Met Police commissioner Cressida Dick praised the 'extraordinarily brave actions by officers on and off duty first on the scene' who 'ran towards the danger'.

The second policeman who was seriously injured is a British Transport Police officer who was one of the first to arrive on the scene. Armed with only a baton, he was stabbed in the face, head and leg when he tried to intervene.

It was also claimed last night that the terrorists may have hired the van they used only at the last minute. A neighbour of the main suspect said he discussed hiring a vehicle with him on Saturday afternoon – hours before the atrocities.

'I did my bit - why didn't the police?': Friend of jihadi wearing Arsenal shirt reported him to the anti-terror hotline

A friend of the Arsenal shirt-wearing attacker warned police he was an extremist but they never came back to him.

He told the BBC's Asian Network that his mind was warped on YouTube watching videos made by the American hate preacher Ahmad Musa Jibril.

He said: 'We spoke about a particular attack that happened and like most radicals he had a justification for anything and everything and that day I realised I needed to contact the authorities.

'He used to listen to a lot of Musa Jibril. I have heard some of this stuff and its very radical. I am surprised this stuff is still on YouTube and is easily accessible. I phoned the antiterror hotline. I spoke to the gentleman. I told him about our conversation and why I think he was radicalised.

'I did my bit, I know a lot of other people did their bit, but the authorities did not do their bit'.

Images of the vehicle appear to show it is a white Hertz hire van, which also has B&Q branding on it.

A spokesman for Hertz said: 'We are assisting the authorities and are unable to comment further at this stage due to the ongoing police investigation.'

A spokesman for B&Q referred all inquiries to the police.

Khuram Butt tricked his neighbours into believing he was a nice guy by playing football with their children on the nearby green.

Secretly, he was harbouring a destructive hatred and frequently changing his appearance in preparation of unleashing a deadly attack on the capital city, we can reveal.

The killer lived in a block of flats in Barking and also played table tennis with youngsters.

A neighbour told MailOnline the man who was pictured in an Arsenal shirt lying dead on the street outside the Wheatsheaf pub in Borough Market near London Bridge was a father of at least two children.

The murderer managed to put on such a front with those close to him that local parents would even trust him to be alone with their children, which used to happen regularly.

ISIS tonight claimed responsibility for the attack, 24 hours after the three terrorists were shot dead, saying the three men were a 'squadron of fighters from the Islamic State'.

Barking jihadi Butt was described as 'a nice guy' by a neighbour who saw him hold a door open for an old lady two days before slaughtering innocent members of the public in the third Islamic terror attack in just over 10 weeks in the UK.

One neighbour told MailOnline said: 'Once I helped him when his car broke down and he came round the next day with some food for me.

'Then, two days before the attack, I saw him holding the door to his flat's open for an old lady. He was a nice guy.

'He was always smiling. But he always went to his own mosque so I never prayed with him.'

A man who lived above the London Bridge terrorist for three years said: 'He always changed his facial appearance. He did that a lot. He always looked different.

'He lived there with his wife, who has just had a baby girl, and his mum. He also had another child. He would regularly play table tennis in the games room with everyone, you would never have suspected this.

'A man I recognised as his brother came here in the morning while police raided the flat and he was crying. That's when I thought 'oh my, it's really him'.'

Another Barking resident knew the killer in the Arsenal shirt who was shot dead in the street.

He said: 'He used to play table tennis and he was really generous with everyone's kids. People would leave their kids to play with him.

'You'd never expect anything like this from him.'

While carrying out their barbaric attack, the three men were heard shouting, 'This is for Allah,' which surprised one resident.

He told MailOnline: 'One time he stopped and help me get my car re-started.

'He said he wanted to help a fellow Muslim out. I thought it was odd he said he was religious because I never saw him at mosque.

'These people are usually radicalised in their bedrooms.'

The attackers, who were wearing fake suicide vests, were filmed sauntering through a deserted Borough Market just moments after they abandoned the white van used to mow down pedestrians on London Bridge.

Shortly after the trio began stabbing revellers at random inside packed bars and pubs, with dozens of victims suffering wounds to their faces, necks and chests. The video was taken sometime during this second phase of the atrocity and shows the attackers coming within feet of the Market Porter pub, where dozens of revellers hid in fear.

Moments after the video was taken, all three suspects were shot dead by police - just eight minutes after the first emergency call was received.

It emerged Sunday night a member of the public was shot after being caught in the police crossfire.

A doctor from the Royal London Hospital, Malik Ramadhan, told The Guardian the member of public was a man who was shot in the head but that he is 'absolutely not dying' and is expected to make a full recovery.

Mark Rowley said: 'We're making significant progress in identifying the three attackers and confirming the fact there were no other suspects at the scene when the attack was carried out.

'Work is undergoing to understand more about them, about their connections and whether they were assisted and supported by anyone else. There is clearly more to do and we will work relentlessly to get to the facts.

'We established that the van used in the attack was a white Renault van that was recently hired by one of the attackers.

WHAT WE KNOW AFTER THE LONDON BRIDGE ATTACK

Thirty-six people remain in hospital, including 21 in critical condition, following the attack on Saturday night.

A bystander was shot in the head after they were caught in the police crossfire and the incident is being investigated by the Independent Police Complaints Commission, the Metropolitan Police revealed yesterday.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau confirmed a Canadian national is among the dead but no name has been released.

France's Foreign Minister has confirmed that a French man was killed in the attack. Seven people from France were injured, four critically. One is still missing.

Australian waitress Candice Hedge is recovering in hospital after one of the terrorists ran up and cut her neck as she enjoyed a post-work drink at a bar.

New Zealander Oliver Dowling, 32, is in a coma after being stabbed in the face during the attack.

His girlfriend, Maire Bondeville, was also injured although her condition is still unknown.

A British Transport Police officer was stabbed in the face and an off-duty Metropolitan Police officer was also injured.

Twelve people were arrested and four women taken into police custody during an early morning raid at a tower block in Barking, east London, where one of the attackers is believed to have lived.

Desperate families are begging for information on loved ones feared missing after the attack, including a 16-year-old girl who failed to return home.

Theresa May said the attacks were not directly connected to the Manchester bombing last month and the Westminster attack in April but that all three are linked by the single evil ideology of Islamist extremism'.

Politicians faced calls to cancel the election next week but Mrs May confirmed it will go ahead as planned.

All parties except for Ukip agreed to suspend national election campaigning yesterday but local efforts will continue London Mayor Sadiq Khan condemned the 'barbaric' and 'horrific' event as 'deliberate and cowardly'.

Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn said the attack was 'brutal' and 'shocking' in a tweet.

President Donald Trump took to Twitter to criticise Sadiq Khan after the London Mayor told residents of his city that there is 'no reason to be alarmed' in the wake of the attack.

'The van mounted the pavement and collided with pedestrians before being abandoned where attackers were armed with knives, continued into the Borough Market area, stabbing numerous people. The attackers were then confronted by the firearms officers and I can confirm eight police firearms officers discharged their weapons.

'While this will be subject to an investigation by the IPCC, our initial assessment is in the region of 50 rounds, 50 bullets were fired by those eight officers. The three attackers were shot dead.

'The situation these officers were confronted with was critical - a matter of life and death - three armed men wearing what appeared to be suicide belts. They had already attacked and killed members of the public and had to be stopped immediately.

'Indeed I'm not surprised with what they must have feared were three suicide bombers the firearms officers fired an unprecedented number of rounds to be completely confident they had neutralised the threat that those men posed.'

Canadian terror victim, 30, who worked in a homeless shelter died in her fiance's arms after terrorists mowed her down with their speeding van on London Bridge

A Canadian woman killed in the latest London attack died in her fiance's arms after being struck by a speeding van as terrorists again brought havoc to the capital.

Christine Archibald, 30, would have had 'no understanding of the callous cruelty that caused her death', her family said as they paid tribute to her.

She is the first victim of the atrocity in London Bridge on Saturday night to be named. The attack killed seven people and critically injured 21 others.

Ms Archibald's fiance, Tyler Ferguson, held her in his arms as she died, his sister revealed last night.

Mr Ferguson's sister wrote on Facebook: 'Last night in London, my baby brother, lost the love of his life on the London Bridge.

'In a split second his entire life was ripped away from him. Hearing his painful sobs on the phone while he's alone trying to deal with this tears me apart.

'I have no words. If you know Tyler, please be there for him now, and later when what happened sinks in, he's going to need us all.'

Ms Archibald, a worker in a homeless shelter, moved from her native British Columbia to live in Europe with her fiance.

Her devastated family said: 'We grieve the loss of our beautiful, loving daughter and sister. She had room in her heart for everyone and believed strongly that every person was to be valued and respected.

'She lived this belief working in a shelter for the homeless until she moved to Europe to be with her fiancé. She would have had no understanding of the callous cruelty that caused her death.

'Please honor her by making your community a better place. Volunteer your time and labor or donate to a homeless shelter. Tell them Chrissy sent you.'

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said: 'I am heartbroken that a Canadian is among those killed.

'We grieve with the families and friends of those who have lost loved ones, and wish all those injured a speedy and full recovery.

'Londoners and people across the United Kingdom have always displayed strength and resilience in the face of adversity.'

'We recently witnessed this after the attacks in Manchester and in the Westminster area of London. This time will be no different.'

An unnamed French citizen died in the attacks and another is still missing, the country's Foreign Minister, Jean-Yves Le Drian has said.

The victim is reportedly a 27-year-old from Saint-Malo in Brittany who was working in the Boro Bistro when he was attacked. He was named in French media only as 'Alexandre'.

French newspaper Ouest France said the victim had been living in Britain for the past two and a half years.

The missing French citizen is believed to be Xavier Thomas, whose sister-in-law posted a desperate message on Facebook yesterday.

He is understood to have been with his girlfriend Christine Delcros when the attack took place. Ms Delcros is said to be injured in hospital.

Her sister Nathalie Cros Brohan wrote online:  'We are on our way to London, my sister Christine Delcros and her boyfriend Xavier Thomas have been victims of #londonattack #LondonBridge.'

'My sister is seriously injured and hospitalised. I appeal to all those who have news of Xavier Thomas that is missing ... he is not one of the 4 French found. We are terribly worried.'

Spanish HSBC worker Ignacio Echeverria is still missing after the attack.

Mr Echeverria was last seen on Saturday night lying on the pavement near London Bridge after confronting one of the knife-wielding terrorists as he was attacking a female victim.

Mr Echeverria's family are trying to find 39-year-old, who lived in Poplar, east London, and came from Las Rozas near Madrid.

Mr Echeverria's sister Isabel, an account operations manager with WEX Virtual Payments who also lives in London, has launched a social media appeal for help in tracking him down after failing to find him following approaches to hospitals, the police and the Spanish consulate.

A 21-year-old Australian woman last seen on London Bridge also remains missing after being caught in Saturday night's terror attack.

Sara Zelenak, from Brisbane, became separated from her friends and has not been seen since, family friends have said

Family friend Diane Winter said more than 24 hours have passed with no news from the Australian consulate about Ms Zelenak's welfare.

Ms Zelenak calls her mother everyday from London where she works as a nanny, Ms Winter said.

But Ms Zelenak has not answered her phone or responded to texts since she was separated from her friends the moment chaos broke out in central London.

There are 48 people recovering in hospitals across the capital, including Australian Candice Hedge whose throat was cut as she sat in a bar.

Another victim, New Zealander Oliver Dowling, 32, is in a coma after being stabbed in the face during the attack, which also injured his girlfriend, Marie Bondeville, whose condition is still unknown.

A British Transport Police officer was stabbed in the face, while Scotland Yard has now confirmed an off-duty Metropolitan Police officer was also among those injured.

Londoner Roy Larner is also in intensive care after reportedly running at the attackers to help others.

Mr Larner was reportedly got stabbed five times and was left with cuts to his head, neck, back and hands.

Friend Archie Webber-Brown wrote online: 'Roy Larner charged at the terrorists on London Bridge in order to try and stop them and help others escape.

'He ended up getting himself stabbed multiple times showing great courage and preparing he's body for the ultimate self sacrifice to help others, he should be acknowledged and rewarded for his actions.'

The mother of one of the victims, 23 year-old Daniel O'Neill, who was stabbed in last night's attack, told reporters outside King's College Hospital: 'He just stepped outside the bar for a second and a man ran up to him and said: 'This is for my family, this is for Islam', and stuck a knife straight in him. He's got a seven-inch scar going from his belly round to his back.

'The man ran away, Daniel headed back into the pub, there was shots fired, everybody was told to lie down, and then they were told to go downstairs in the bar.

'At this stage Daniel's friend had put a tourniquet on him and was holding pressure there, he was brought downstairs, parts of that he doesn't remember, and then the police were there and brought him in their car to the hospital.

'These people say they are doing this in the name of God, which is an absolute joke. If it wasn't religion they'd find some other excuse.

'They are callous, they are barbaric and they are absolute cowards. We will carry on as normal.'

Miss Hedge had just finished her shift at Elliot's restaurant in London Bridge and was having a drink at a nearby bar when she was attacked.

She also posted on Facebook: 'Hey everyone, just so you know I'm doing Ok. Bit of pain but I will survive. Thanks for your thoughts and well wishes. Love to all'.

Meanwhie, Mr Dowling 's sister revealed on Facebook that he is expected to recover from stab wounds to his, face, neck and stomach, as the knife missed his vital organs.

She said: 'Doctors are very happy with how he's come out the other side.

The officer was on-duty at the time and was responding to the incident at London Bridge, where a group of men drove a van into a crowd of people.

The men then jumped out of the car near Borough Market and began stabbing people nearby with 12-inch hunting knives, including the unnamed officer.

He sustained serious, but not life-threatening injuries, according to Assistant Commissioner Mark Rowley who spoke outside Scotland Yard around 4am in London.

Another person stabbed was Geoff Ho, who was filmed clutching his neck with what appeared to be a knife wound.

He was bravely trying to break up what he believed was a Saturday night brawl when he was cut to the throat.

He tweeted this morning: 'I got out of surgery yesterday and am on the mend.'

Explosions and gunshots heard as police raid two more homes and make further arrests over London Bridge terror attack

Explosions and gunshots were heard when police raided two more properties in east London today as they investigate the terror attack on London Bridge.

Officers are searching two addresses in Dagenham and Newham in connection with Saturday night's massacre in the capital city, which saw three jihadist terrorists kill seven people and injure dozens more.

Armed police stormed the properties early this morning, with neighbours telling how they heard guns being fired and explosions ringing out.

One witness told MailOnline he heard an 'extremely loud bang at 4am followed by multiple gunshots' off the A13 in Dagenham, east London.

He said: 'It was as if my ear was right next to a car backfiring. It was loud enough to wake everyone up at 4am.'

James Bateman, who lives at the other side of the road, said: 'At about 4am, after the large bang, I looked outside the window after being woken up and I saw about a dozen armed police officers going to and from an unmarked van.'

He said they were wearing 'full gear', adding: 'The first bang was nothing like I'd heard before.'

Mr Bateman said the bangs that followed were not as loud but sounded 'the equivalent' of gunshots.

Simon Tucker wrote on Twitter: 'Heard this in the Dagenham area at around 4:15 am. Started with loud explosion sound. Followed by about 20 shots, Some sounded distant.' a

Police officers were seen standing outside a residential property close to the Ship and Shovel pub in Dagenham. A quarter-mile stretch of the A13 is thought to have been closed off for a short period during the raid.

Yesterday, police arrested 12 people including four women during a dawn raid at a block of flats in Barking where one of the London Bridge terrorists reportedly lived.

One witness said a suspect who tried to flee was shot while others reported hearing gunfire and explosions as police swooped on the east London address at 7am on Sunday.

Several men were pictured laying face down in the road handcuffed, while others were later led from the flat alongside four women. The arrests marked the first by police over the attack which killed seven and wounded 48, including 21 people left in critical.

THE ARRESTS SO FAR

Officers have made a series of arrests since Saturday night's London Bridge atrocity and are searching a number of properties.

Early on Sunday, police carried out raids at two addresses in Barking, east London, arresting 12 people.

At one property, police detained a 38-year-old woman.

Four men aged 28, 52, 55 and 27 and six women aged 49, 60, 19, 27, 24 and 53 were arrested during a raid at a second address.

A 55-year-old man was also detained but has since been released without charge.

This morning at around 4.15am, police raided a further two addresses in Newham and Barking in east London detaining a 'number of people'.

A second raid by armed officers was then caught on film less than a mile away on Barking Road, East Ham, at 3.30pm as officers pointed their weapons to a first floor flat above a Paddy Power shop.

One of the suspects arrested in the East Ham raid made a desperate attempt at a rooftop escape by climbing out of a window.

He was only apprehended after armed officers pointed their weapons at him and threatened to shoot, Malik Rouf, 30, an eyewitness, told MailOnline.

'I don't know if he was scared or anything but he looked pretty desperate,' he said. 'He looked pretty determined to escape.'

The suspect, said to be black and in his twenties, turned around and climbed back through his window where he was arrested along with another black man.

The armed officers had jumped out of three unmarked police cars before pouncing, the eyewitness said. The two suspects were dragged into a van and driven away.

Meanwhile, armed police and forensic officers were seen scouring the scene at London Bridge and Borough Market, where three terrorists left a trail of death and destruction when they went on a van and knife rampage.

The attackers, who were wearing fake suicide vests, mowed down up to 20 pedestrians as they careered across London Bridge in an 'S shape' at 50mph before abandoning the vehicle at nearby Borough Market, where they began 'randomly stabbing' revellers packed into busy bars and pubs.

Theresa May warns that Corbyn would not 'step up' to keep Britain safe from terrorism as she dismisses criticism over police cuts

Theresa May warned that Jeremy Corbyn would not 'step up' to keep Britain safe from terrorism today as she dismissed criticism over police cuts.

The Prime Minister defended her record in the wake of the London Bridge atrocity, insisting counter-terrorism budgets had gone up since 2015 and more armed police were being recruited.

After Labour accused her of putting the country at risk by reducing police numbers, Mrs May pointed out that Mr Corbyn had repeatedly 'boasted' about opposing measures to tackle the threats.

Terrorists brought carnage to the streets of Britain for the second time in as many weeks, killing seven and leaving 21 fighting for their lives.

The three men, wearing fake suicide bomb vests, were shot dead by eight officers outside a pub after police opened fire with an 'unprecedented' hail of 50 bullets, while a bystander was also shot.

Despite his long record of opposing counter-terrorism measures, Mr Corbyn has sought to turn the screw on the PM - saying police numbers have fallen by 20,000 since 2010.

'In this election there is one leader who has made it his life's ambition to get rid of Trident, and one who is committed to keeping it,' she said.

'One leader who has boasted about opposing every single counter-terror law, and one who has been responsible for passing them.

'One leader who has opposed the use of shoot to kill, and given cover to the IRA when they bombed and shot our citizens – and who now, in the midst of an election campaign, wants to do all he can to hide or deny those views.

'That's not leadership. It's an abdication of leadership.

'It's a failure to meet even the minimum requirement of the job of Prime Minister – to keep our country safe.'

The speech in central London today came after the PM chaired a meeting of the Cobra emergency committee in the wake of the attack, and confirmed that the threat level will stay at 'severe'.

Asked earlier whether she regretted cuts to officer numbers, Mrs May said: 'The Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police has said that the Met is well-resourced, and they are, and they have very powerful counter terrorism capabilities.

'We have protected counter terrorism policing budgets, we have also provided funding for an increase in the number of armed officers.

FORMER CAMERON AIDE SAYS PM SHOULD 'RESIGN' OVER ATTACK

A former aide to David Cameron demanded Theresa May resigns over the London Bridge attack today.

Steve Hilton, who resigned from Downing Street in 2012 and then dramatically fell out with Mr Cameron over Brexit, rubbished her record as Home Secretary.

'Theresa May responsible for security failures of London Bridge, Manchester, Westminster Bridge,' Mr Hilton, who now lives in the US, posted on Twitter.

'Should be resigning not seeking re-election.'

The comments come with Mrs May facing pressure over police cuts since 2010. Labour has been trying to link the terror attacks in London Bridge, Manchester and Westminster to security failures.

'That's despite the fact that Jeremy Corbyn's Labour Party suggested that police budgets could be cut.

'But it is also the powers that we give to police. We have given increased powers to police to be able to deal with threats - powers that Jeremy Corbyn has always boasted he has opposed.'

Mrs May pointed out that a number of nationalities had been caught up in the attack. 'This was an attack on London and the UK but it was also an attack on the free world,' she said.

Culture Secretary Karen Bradley admitted earlier that there had been 'reductions in police numbers across the board'.

'That was because we had to take difficult decisions in 2010 when we came into office, when as you remember there was no money,' she added.

She stressed that more armed police were being recruited.

Pedestrians were mowed down by a van on London Bridge before attackers stabbed a police officer and revellers around Borough Market with 12-inch knives.

One of the attackers shouted 'this is for Allah' as he knifed a man near a pub - while the Islamic State militant group claimed its fighters carried out the attack.

The group is said to have urged extremists to run over civilians in a poster released over the weekend featuring a knife, handgun and lorry urging radicals to 'gain benefit from Ramadan'.

Officers say they know the identities of the men who carried out the attack and will release the names 'as soon as operationally possible'.

Scotland Yard said seven women and five men aged between 19 and 60 were arrested under the Terrorism Act in Barking on Sunday. A 55-year-old man was later released without charge.

A vigil will be held on Monday evening near London Bridge in honour of the victims of the attack, which took place at around 10pm, while a minute's silence will take place at 11am on Tuesday.

Jeremy Corbyn calls for minute's silence for those killed in 'Liverpool' rather than London terror atrocity

Jeremy Corbyn today blundered by accidentally holding a minute's silence for those killed in Liverpool – rather than the London terror attack.

Three knife-wielding terrorists killed seven people and injured 48 more when they drove their van into pedestrians in London Bridge before leaping out and stabbing people on Saturday night.

It came just a fortnight after 22 were killed and 119 injured when  Salman Abedi  blew himself up at the end of an Ariana Grande's concert in Manchester.

The Labour leader accidentally led his supporters in a tribute to those murdered in the 'Liverpool' terror attack.

Speaking at the beginning of a campaign rally in Middlesbrough, he said: 'This election is about many, many things , but it is also, I think, about recognising those people that have lost loved ones and suffered as a result of it.

'So if you can just have a pause for a few moments silence in memory of all those who died in Manchester and in Liverpool, and at the same time pay a huge thank you to the police, the British Transport Police, the firefighters, ambulance service, NHS crews and so many others that did so much to try to save life.

'Thank you very much to all of them, they stand by us every day of the year, we must stand by them at the same time.'

TWELVE WEEKS OF TERROR: BRUTAL MURDERS ARE LATEST IN WAVE OF ATTACKS TO HIT UK

The brutal murders by three jihadis in London on Saturday night is the latest in a wave of terror attacks to hit the UK this year.

Police and security chiefs fear 'copycat' vehicle attacks may continue following the massacres on the Westminster and London bridges.

The country has been the victim of horrific atrocities over the past three months, beginning with Westminster and continuing in Manchester.

Westminster attack - March 22, 2017

In March, 'lone wolf' extremist Khalid Masood ran down a crowd of people on Westminster Bridge in a Hyundai 4x4 at almost 80mph, killing four people and injuring around 30 more as pedestrians were left strewn across the road.

Armed with a knife, he then left the vehicle and tried to enter Parliament, stabbing police officer Keith Palmer to death after he tried to stop him.

Masood, 52, who was born in Kent as Adrian Elms, was then shot dead by an armed officer.

The victims on the bridge included British teacher Aysha Frade, who had been on her way to pick up her children from school and American Kurt Cochran, who had been in London celebrating his 25th wedding anniversary with wife Melissa. Both died at the scene.

Leslie Rhodes, 75, of Clapham, was seriously injured by the vehicle and died later in hospital. Romania tourist Andreea Cristea also died more than a week after the attack after being knocked into the Thames during the incident.

She was rescued and rushed to hospital but never recovered from her injuries.

Westminster knifeman - April 27, 2017

Khalid Mohammed Omar Ali, 27, of north London, has been charged with terror offences following the incident in Whitehall.

It came after a terror suspect was detained with a 'rucksack full of knives' after being tailed by officers from the moment he exited St James's Park underground station.

While covert teams followed him on the ground, a live feed was being sent to control rooms in New Scotland Yard and the MI5's Thames House before they gave the order for them to swoop in.

Armed officers then held him to the ground just yards from Downing Street.

Security sources said police were tipped off by the suspect's family and Scotland Yard confirmed that the incident was terror-related within minutes of the arrest.

Following the incident, Prime Minister Theresa May paid tribute to the 'hero' police and 'unseen and unheard' spies behind the arrest.

Witnesses said the suspect 'didn't resist or say a word' when he was stopped and 'immediately surrendered'.

Manchester bombing - May 22

Young children were sent fleeing for their lives at following an Ariana Grande concert at Manchester Arena after terrorist Salman Abedi, 22, detonated a nail bomb in the foyer.

Twenty-two people were killed, with the youngest aged just eight, and 119 more were injured by shrapnel as terrified crowds jumped over stairwells and clambered over seats as they battled to reach the exit.

A huge armed police response took place in the city, with officers carrying rifles posted at several high profile events in the following days, including the Great Manchester Run.

The military was also mobilised onto the UK's streets as part of Operation Temperer after Theresa May raised the country's security level from severe to critical.

Police have been working round-the-clock since Abedi killed 15 adults and seven children in the worst terrorist atrocity since the July 7 bombings in 2005.
